10 Most Googled CBD questions of 2020:

Can it cure a hangover? How do you take it?

2020 wasn’t a year many will want to remember, but it has seen a rise in interest in CBD products with thousands of people looking to ease pain, stress and anxiety.

The current CBD market in the UK is estimated to be worth around £300million and by 2025 is reported to be nearing £1billion.

Still, many questions remain around CBD oil - particularly for those new to the idea.

Here at ActivelyCBD, we’ve taken the time to answer the 10 most searched for questions about cannabidiol products over the past 12 months.

1. What is CBD?

CBD is short for cannabidiol, a chemical oil from the cannabis plant. CBD is not psychoactive like its cousin compound, THC.

2. How do you take CBD?

CBD can be consumed in various ways. The most common is through oil droplets, however new products have used the oil to create the likes of edible sweet gummies, vapes and even coffee.

3. Is CBD legal in the UK?

Yes, CBD oil is legal in the UK as long as it doesn’t contain THC. CBD vendors also have to meet a criteria, with their products “derived from an industrial hemp strain that is EU-approved” or from outside the EU. The industry could see new rulings on this as Brexit plays out in 2021.

4. How long does it take for CBD to work?

This is completely dependent on the person, how much you use and in what form. Some people feel the effects immediately, while for others it can take days if taking small amounts.

The feeling of CBD from edibles, for example, can last between six to eight hours. A topical cream can peak at around 90 minutes and smoking CBD products can last for often a maximum of two hours.

5. Can CBD cure a hangover?

There is so far no scientific evidence to suggest that CBD can help with the effects of a hangover and most products do not purport to combat this. Though CBD may help subside some symptoms of a hangover, including the likes of nausea.

6. Can CBD lower blood pressure?

Once again, no definitive evidence has been proven to help lower blood pressure. However, research by the Journal of Clinical Investigation has cited that, “Our data shows a single dose of CBD reduces resting blood pressure and the blood pressure response to stress, particularly cold stress, and especially in the post-test periods. This may reflect the anxiolytic and analgesic effects of CBD, as well as any potential direct cardiovascular effects”.

7. Has CBD been clinically tested?

The strongest evidence for CBD and its health benefits is through a number of tests to determine its effectiveness for epilepsy. A number of studies have shown CBD was able to lower the number of seizures patients were having and even stop them altogether in some cases.

8. Can CBD oil cause headaches?

Despite a few reports online, there has been no link to the properties of CBD products giving people headaches. In fact a study in 2016 from the American College of Clinical Pharmacy actually found medicinal CBD helped relieve the symptoms of headaches.

9. Can CBD oil make you tired?

Possibly. Expert opinions appear to be mixed on this theory. CBD’s natural relaxing properties could have an affect on helping someone improve their sleep, however, products should not make a user feel drowsy.

10. Can CBD oil help with depression?

Many people opt to use CBD to help with stress and anxiety. A lack of evidence makes it unable for us to judge on the benefits of CBD for depression. This does not mean it would not help, but more clinical trials and studies would need to be carried out to provide sufficient evidence.
