Excitingly the Endocannabinoid System isn’t exclusive to humans! All animals have an endocannabinoid with the exceptions of insects and protists (single celled organisms that are not animal, plant or fungus) and it is responsible for maintaining homeostasis the same way as ours does. Most of the testing of CBD has been on animals however it’s worth noting that any evidence is still considered anecdotal, and further research is still required. But many pet owners have claimed it has improved conditions such as seizures, neuropathic pains, stress and anxiety, nausea, poor appetite and arthritis. Osteoarthritis affects some 20% of dogs over 1 year old, affecting their ability to keep active and happy.
Animals most commonly given CBD are cats, dogs and horses, and there are loads of great products to explore made especially for them, although many owners are happy to share their human CBD with their furry friends.
